Michael Morbius vs Chihiro Rokuhira (Sony's Morbius vs Kagurabachi)

“Fame is vapor, popularity an accident, and riches takes wing. Only one thing endures and that is character.”

- Horace Greeley

Michael Morbius, Scientist who wished to cure himself of his blood disease before being swept up by the hunger and became the living vampire. . . uh, also named Morbius.

Chihiro Rokuhira, Deciding that enough time has passed after the death of his father, now seeks revenge and to regain what is rightfully his from Karugabachi

Throughout history, people have always wished to be entertained. Jesters, comedians, dancers, filmmakers, artists, writers, producers, and the titles go on and on. However, the world changed as social media was introduced and now people could be entertained with the simplicity of pressing a few buttons. So what happens to the sources of the past? Well, they become victim to the whims of the greater masses and no better example of this exists than what the internet did to Sony’s Morbius and Takeru Hokazono’s Kagurabachi.

Hyped up like crazy due to people seeing stereotypes or bringing up the absurdity of making a movie about an obscure Spider-Man villain no seriously what the fuck were they thinking—Anyways. These ironic hypes boosted the popularity of both to no bounds and to levels never quite seen before. So, did they live up to the hype? Well, there’s a very obvious answer for that, but how about instead we see if they. . . okay look man I do not have a good segway into this so uh, It’s time for a DEATH BATTLE!

Ay, hold your horses bud.

Both characters have a very short media list. For Morbius, I’ll only be looking at the 2022 Film of the same name. Similarly, I’ll be using the manga of Kagurabachi for Chihiro.

Given Morbius’ nature as. . . well a goddamn movie, it is somewhat difficult to get links for alot of the things mentioned in this blog. Because of that, uh, just trust me bro it’s Morbius. Why would I lie about Morbius?

Also! To cover the elephant in the room, yes! Kagurabachi is a weekly manga and thus this blog will instantly be dated no matter when it comes out. Because of this, it should be wise to know this blog was finished on 08/29/2024 with the latest chapter being Ch. 46 Because of this here is your SPOILER WARNING for all of Kagurabachi. I highly suggest you read it.

Finally, thanks to all the VSBW blog creators whose calcs I used for this blog. It would’ve been impossible to finish this without their calculations, so big thanks to them.

Background

Michael Morbius

I went from dying to feeling more alive than ever.”

In this world, there is only one fair thing, and that is that the world is unfair to everyone. A case more prevalent in none other than the young Michael Morbius and his close friend Lucien whom Michael nicknamed “Milo.” The two of them suffered a unique blood disease that caused their bodies to be very weak and require hourly blood changes. On top of being ridiculed by school bullies, the two boys had a rough upbringing. This would seemingly change for Michael as one day, Milo’s blood-changing machine suffered a mechanical error which Michael fixed using the spring of a ballpoint pen. Saving Milo’s life and catching the attention of their caretaker, Dr. Nicholas, who advocated that Michael move on from the private hospital and go to New York to advance a possible scientific career. Michael was worried about Milo, but Nicholas promised he’d watch over him, and thus Michael began a very long and difficult career as a doctor.

Years later, Michael Morbius is awarded the Nobel Prize for his scientific discoveries in bloodborne pathogens and his extremely useful artificial blood. To the scientific community and his fellow doctor’s shock though, Michael turned the reward down. He claimed that the artificial blood was a “failure.” as what he had been trying to do all along as a doctor was cure his and Milo’s disease. An effort he had been working in secret for supposed years. Michael was attempting to splice Vampire Bat DNA with Human DNA in hopes that the Vampire’s Bat unique metabolism would aid in curing him and his friend. After 172 trials using mice and chimera DNA extracted from the bats, he would succeed. Thanks to Milo now being a very wealthy investor in Michael’s research, he and his fellow doctor, Martine Bancroft manage to get the funds and a ship to complete the illegal procedure to implant the chimera DNA into Michael himself. His procedure had cured his illness but in a horrific way. After finishing the implant, Morbius blacked out and proceeded to slaughter every single guard found on the ship he and Martine were working on as a living vampire, Morbius.

He fled the ship by jumping into the ocean, where in the morning the police discovered the horrors of his actions and began searching for the culprit, using a unique origami found on the ship to deduce Michael as the main suspect. Meanwhile, Michael returned to his laboratory in New York and began experimenting with his new body. The splicing has enhanced his strength to superhuman levels, he had enhanced agility, and a new ability that allows him to utilize echolocation. All seems to be fine until Michael realizes the one crucial flaw in using vampire bat DNA; He has now developed a diet purely of blood. He attempts to circumvent this by using artificial blood but soon realizes its effects are temporary and fleeting with each successive hunger. He soon tries to leave the hospital after discovering the dead body, believing himself to be the cause but is met by the police. A chase ensues that eventually ends up with him imprisoned.

In jail, he is visited by Milo where he discovers that Milo stole one of the extra serums that implanted the vampire DNA into a person. Morbius is outraged by this considering the drastic effects and harm it could bring and breaks out of jail. Using echolocation, he zeroes in on Milo who had recently killed someone. The two of them battle and Morbius decides to escape by using his newfound ability to fly. He regroups with a newly recovered Martine and decides his next course of action should be creating an antibody to put Milo and himself down. Finding a lab underground, he begins to work and eventually, with the help of Martine, creates a “cure.” to kill Milo, and himself.

Before he can go out and find Milo, however, he is called by Dr. Nicholas and he discovers that Milo has killed their lifelong caretaker. He is angered by this, but his focus is turned as he then hears Milo torturing Martine to lure him in. Upon arriving at the scene, he discovers Martine close to death where she urges him to drink her blood to have a chance against Milo. He does so, and the final battle between the two friends begins. Milo, due to accepting his nature, completely humiliates Michael and shoves the two of them deep underground. Here, Michael uses his connection to the vampire bats to summon a horde to throw Milo around and hold him long enough for him to use his antibody; Killing his friend. But one antibody went unused, for in New York there exists hunters, there exist lethal protectors, and there is the living vampire, Michael Morbius.

Chihiro Rokuhira

“Every morning when I wash my face and look into the mirror, I see this scar and remember that day. So every day, I start the morning with fresh hatred.”

What is a katana? To all it’s obviously a tool but everything that exists has a deeper meaning; It always and shall represent something. For Kunishige Rokuhira, the tool still existed to kill, but it should be used to kill only does who do evil. He believed that the katana was a tool of hope and brought peace, yet nonetheless, it was still through killing. Every life taken by a katana he forged weighed heavily in his heart, good or bad deaths, and none weighed heavier than the six Enchanted Blades he forged to help his country win the Seiti War. After retiring and going into hiding, he became the sole owner of the six blades and attempted to teach his son the same lesson he had to learn about weapon forging and selling. Lessons that abruptly ended as Kunishige was murdered and his six enchanted swords were stolen. His son was a witness to all of this, and holding a seventh Enchanted Blade in his hand, vowed to cut his father’s killers down. Throughout the course of 3 years, Chihiro Rokhuria would make a bloody trail as he searched for his father’s killers, his Enchanted Blades, and killed those who wielded the Katana in evil’s name.

One day, he would be met by a little girl named Char. Char was currently being hunted down by sorcerers for her unique biological abilities that allowed her to magically heal wounds and regrow limbs. Chihiro defended the poor girl with his life when one day the man who was putting a bounty on her head appeared, Genichi Sojo, and in his hand, he mercilessly used an Enchanted Blade. Sojo's usage of the weapon and parasocial relationship with his father enraged Chihiro, but unfortunately, he was not strong enough to beat Sojo in their first duel and Char was kidnapped for his experiments. He needed to become stronger. Being taken in by Japan’s militaristic sorcerer organization, the Kamunabi, Chihiro formed a plan for a special group of sorcerers to handle Sojo while he went off to save Char. The two Enchanted Blade wielders became extremely exhausted and damaged, and that allowed both of them to get a broader understanding of their sword’s true power. Chihiro with his newfound understanding killed Char’s captors and freed her, whilst Sojo butchered the Kamubani’s members with lightning-fast speeds.

Finally, the two would meet, blades in hand, and began a confrontation that lasted a mere 12 seconds. Chihiro pushed his abilities to the edge, and in a hard decision, slashed apart both Sojo and his father’s own weapon in a single slash. Sojo collapsed and Chihiro groaned in agony, both of them pushing limits that shouldn’t have been pushed in the first place. Before Sojo died, Chihiro took the opportunity to have one final heartfelt discussion with the foe. He claimed that his presumptions and feelings about the enchanted blades and his fathers may have been right, and that truthfully even the sword chose him to wield it, however, he would never stand equal to his father. And for that, Chihiro promised to cut him down.

With a new Enchanted Blade added to his arsenal, Chihiro’s search for the other five swords did not end. On one faithful mission, he encountered Hakuri Sazanami. Chihiro was quite lucky for this encounter, considering he was planning to get into the Sazanami family’s auction, the Rakuzaichi, to retrieve another Enchanted Blade. Unfortunately for him, Chihiro would never fail to meet opposition on his bloody path and came to blows with Hiyuki Kagari and Tafuku Mihara. The two Kamubani members wanted to bring Chihiro in, but with help from Hakuri, he managed to escape their grasp. Later on, Hakuri helped Chihiro and his ally, Togo Shiba, come face to face with the Rakuzaichi’s current host, Kyora Sazanami. Kyora revealed to Chihiro and Shiba that retrieving the enchanted blade would be impossible as it was currently residing in a realm called a storehouse, that was difficult to enter. A battle quickly ensued on two fronts as Chihiro battled against Kyora’s main guards; The Tou, and Shiba was called away to help Hakuri escape his abusive brother. Thanks to Shiba’s teleportation sorcery, the two battles became one but that unfortunately gave Kyora a little hint to Hakuri’s whereabouts. He summoned his son and threatened his life. Chihiro saved Hakuri from this cruel fate by surprisingly offering something in return, his own special Enchanted Blade.

Hope was not lost as Chihiro used his special connection to his sword to discover the secrets of Kyora’s storehouse. Along with this, Hakuri revealed that a physical door did exist. Storming into the Rakuzaichi on the day it occurred, Chihiro broke in before being swarmed with guards, leaving him one option but to fight back; He pulled Sojo’s broken Enchanted Blade, the Cloud Gouger, out of its hilt and mustered lightning. In another coincidence, Chihiro would once more encounter Hiyuki and Tafuku but managed to form a compromise to end the auction instead of fighting each other. With Hakuri’s discovery that he had his own storehouse that was connected to his father after he beat his brother, Chihiro could finally enter it and steal back both swords. Cloud Gouger was sacrificed to defend himself as Chihiro grasped Enten, his own blade to battle Kyora in his domain. The battle was hard fought but eventually, Chihiro landed a fatal blow against Kyora. The man would not let the auction end at any cost and decided to fight back by wielding the Enchanted Blade, Magatsumi.

Hiyuki joined the battle against the powerful sorcerer and together, the two along with Hakuri managed to end the auction once and for all. Chihiro, however, had to make another difficult choice where he had to join the Kamubani in order to not be arrested and imprisoned. Luckily, before any dangerous decision was made on his life by the Kamubani’s council, he was ordered to save one of the four wielders his father chose to wield the blades. With Hakuri by his side, it seems that Chihiro Rokuhira will continue to cut those who misuse the katana and his father’s legacy.

Experience & Skill

Michael Morbius

From a young age, Michael Morbius was incredibly intelligent. He was capable of fixing a complex machine using the spring from a ballpoint pen and later on, graduated from college at 19 to earn his doctorate. His artificial blood saved lives and his overall work in bloodborne diseases earned him a Nobel Prize. Dr. Morbius was also the first person ever to be able to successfully splice animal and human DNA together.

Outside of his sheer intellect, Morbius as a fighter is an amateur and typically relies on his superior speed, strength, and mobility to deal with foes. This is pretty blatantly seen considering when he fights somebody on his level, he’s quickly outmatched. Luckily he makes up for this by his use of abilities such as echolocation and his bat summoning. Likely using his intelligence to overpower his opponents to get in the few moves he needs to win.

Chihiro Rokuhira

Chihiro is quite the skilled swordsman, and his skill level makes sense considering he’s been doing this for 3 years. He can kill multiple bodyguards with ease in single sword slashes and can keep up with opposing swordfighters, even if they are above his own skill level. This is thanks to his sword skill obviously but also his craftiness and level-headedness. Chihiro uses smaller blades to distract opponents and has even sacrificed entire limbs to change directions whilst moving at fast speeds. While all these skills are incredibly impressive, they are, of course, highlighted further by Chihiro’s ownership of the Enchanted Blades.

As their creator’s son, Chihiro has a well-versed understanding of all the enchanted blades. This understanding allows him to punish opposing wielders’ charge windows after they use big spells or create plans for others to handle the same thing. His skills and understanding of the blade have allowed him to kill various unique sorcerers with relative ease. When met with an equal or superior opponent, Chihiro will use his intelligence and push his own limits to defeat them. This can be seen when he pushes his Nishiki multiplier to x3 and uses the timings of Nishiki to avoid Sojo’s desperate counterattack. Or when he took advantage of Kyora’s personality to land a fatal blow thanks to Hakuri’s surprising abilities.

Equipment

Michael Morbius

Claws.

As a Vampire Morbius clearly has very sharp teeth and claws! These claws allow Morbius to scale buildings by stabbing into the brick and stone, slice easily through metal piping, and, of course, human necks. These claws are likely even sharp enough to slash through somebody as tough as himself considering Milo’s claws were capable of cutting through Michael.

Antibody.

A unique serum that inhibits ferritin into the body, inducing a massive iron overload, and immediately causing hemochromatosis. Dr. Morbius used this unique serum since it was considered deadly to bats and fatal to humans, aka the perfect counter to a living vampire made from spliced bat DNA. Despite making two doses, one for Milo and one for himself, the poor doctor never used the second dose and likely still has it around.

Chihiro Rokuhira

Enten

Enten is Chihiro’s main weapon and the secret seventh enchanted blade forged by his father. Enchanted Blades are powerful swords forged from a unique ore called datenseki that manipulates spirit energy, amplifying it, but ripping apart a person’s body in the process. Kunishige managed to fine-tune this ore into a controlled and safe-to-use form by forging them into swords. As an Enchanted Blade, the weapon is incredibly sturdy and sharp, but best of all can utilize sorcery by using Chihiro’s own spirit energy. Enchanted Blades amplify a person’s internal spirit energy into an incredibly concentrated form that bursts out of the body into a manifested form, typically in the shape of animals. The wielder can then fling this forcefully ejected spirit energy at an opponent as an attack or spell. Enten contains three spells that we’ve seen so far: Kuro, Aka, and Nishiki. Chihiro has also invented extension techniques for Kuro called Scatter and Shred.

At first, one may think that Enchanted Blades can have their magic used by anyone and that Chihiro would be extremely careful when using it in case someone stole it, however, this thought is quickly crushed by the sword’s Lifelong contract. Once someone comes into ownership of an Enchanted Blade, they are the only person who can use its power. Speaking of this special connection, it also allows Enchanted Blade users to utilize their weapons from afar. Chihiro himself has done this by sharing his vision with the goldfish that appear out of the weapon while Sojo has outright called the blade to his hand.

Cloud Gouger

One of the original Enchanted Blades Kunishige made during the war. Cloud Gouger’s sorceries allow it to manifest different types of weather phenomena such as lightning, rain, and hail, through the spells Mei, Kou, and Yui. Each ability serves its own purpose but is seemingly intended to be combined considering how well Kou mixes with the other two sorceries. Mei is undeniably the weapon’s most dangerous move considering it fires out an actual bolt of lightning. Unlike Enten, Cloud Gouger is reliant on a charge to utilize its two offensive spells

Speaking of his usage of the weapon, considering he cut it in half, Cloud Gouger is not intended to be swung to cut opponents but rather as an amplification or defensive weapon. It is also notable to mention that every use of Cloud Gouger progressively weakens it until the weapon can no longer be maintained and fades into dust.

Fascinatingly, Cloud Gouger is not actually exempt from animal constructs being made of a wielder’s spirit energy. When Sojo uses the weapon, he manifests two large dragons made of clouds. This likely ties back to Chinese Dragons and how their myths typically have them manipulating water or weather, which is what Cloud Gouger represents.

Wakizashi

A much shorter blade that in real life, is typically used as a sort of “sidearm.” Chihiro was forced to use his wakizashi primarily when he gave up Enten to Kyora to spare Hakuri. He paired it with Mei’s speed to cut through hoards of bodyguards effortlessly despite the weapon’s unimpressive appearance. When Chihiro does have his main sword equipped, he instead uses the wakizashi as a throwing weapon to throw off opponents who may have deflected or blocked the wrong blade.

Flip phone

Chihiro’s handy dandy flip phone. As expected, it lets him make phone calls.

Abilities

Michael Morbius

Vampire Physiology

After splicing his DNA with Vampire bat DNA, Morbius became the living vampire and gained a plethora of abilities and weaknesses to go along with it. Firstly, Morbius gained the constitution of an Olypmtic athlete, and superhuman strength and speed. He’s capable of leaping across buildings, breaking through reinforced glass, steel doors, and jail cells, and climbing up walls by literally stabbing into them.

Morbius also gained a diet of, well, blood! I know the Vampire guy needs to drink blood how crazy. Specifically, Morbius needs to constantly feed on blood to maintain not only his new abilities but also his life, if he does not consume blood consistently, his illness will return and return with a vengeance. Drinking artificial blood resets this timer but it will not last forever. Interestingly, actual red blood seems to not only be more effective but also strengthen him.

Echolocation

One of the abilities Michael discovered once he returned to his lab is the ability to use echolocation very similar to actual bats. By releasing a “ping” Morbius scans out a room as that ping bounces off the walls and back into his ears. He typically uses his echolocation to discover people and detect unseen attacks.

His echolocation range is also very impressive as he found Martine’s location from seemingly across the entirety of New York City. At first, Morbius seemed to be vulnerable to high sounds but after a short training session, he can now fine-tune louder sounds out. This is pretty obvious considering he stands right next to a train.

Flight

An ability that actually got him caught in Jail since he was unfamiliar with it. After realizing he was out of his depth against Milo, Morbius managed to catch onto a seemingly invisible air current to fly. There’s not really anything else to this, it’s just flight guys.

Bat Summoning

By sharing a kinship with the Vampire Bats he kidnapped, Morbius is capable of summoning them and many more by screaming. Once the bat swarm is summoned, he can manipulate them to toss his opponent around and pin them down. He used these moves to keep Milo in place so he could inject him with the antibody.

Resistances

Limited Disease Manipulation: Surprisingly, Morbius did NOT actually cure himself of his illness. As is seen when he refuses to drink blood, his illness actually returns to him. This implies that the vampire DNA instead suppresses the illness to a point where it doesn’t exist anymore rather than cure outright.

Chihiro Rokuhira

Sword Sorcery

The enchanted part of the Enchanted Swords is not just for show. Each blade (seemingly) contains three spells that showcase impressive power against normal opponents. As mentioned in the Enchanted Blade’s own sections, Chihiro does this by allowing the blade to amplify his spirit energy into the desired form or spell to attack.

Kuro

By coating the blade with highly concentrated spirit energy, Chihiro can fire out a wide flying slash made of spirit energy like Sukuna to cut opponents apart. Chihiro uses this move very freely and, outside of Nishiki, it is his go-to attack which makes sense. He can use wide-rang slashes to deal with multiple opponents at once (as seen above) but can also fine-tune the length of the attack to fire out smaller slashes. Since the blade is coated in spirit energy, using it at very close range increases the weapon’s power immensely. This is what Chihiro did to break Cloud Gouger and cut Sojo apart.

Kuro: Scatter and Shred.

Due to being extremely exhausted, Chihiro was forced to practically invent a new method of fighting while his back was against a wall. His state of mind allowed him to interpret his sorcery differently and invent an entirely new method of attack: Kuro, Shred. Unlike the normal Kuro, which summons one large goldfish or a smaller one with a quick flying slash, this attack actually has two steps.

First, Chihiro uses a move called Kuro, Scatter which sends out a school of kuro around himself and the area. Then using said Kuro, he unleashes multiple compact weak slashes without taxing the body to, as the name implies, shred through an opponent. In summary, it’s an attack that allows Chihiro to attack from afar multiple times without actually needing to swing his blade. When Chihiro used the move against Kyora, he showcased the ability to send the slashes in multiple directions rather than compact all of them in what seems like a singular cut.

Like the regular Kuro, this move drains the same amount of spirit energy or potentially even more depending on how many goldfish Chihiro decides to summon. A larger amount of goldfish does drain more energy but is said to function like a smokescreen on top of allowing Chihiro to use Kuro, Shred whenever he wants.

Nishiki

Nishiki is Chihiro’s most used power and is understandable as it simply increases his normal attributes. Coating himself in high-density spirit energy, Chihiro’s speed, power, and weapons are enhanced by spirit energy. The speed is the most notable increase in the story, with Chihiro becoming so fast he seemingly vanishes from people’s sight as if he suddenly turned invisible. His speed is so impressive, that when he and Sojo used their cloaking abilities, their other moves became obsolete simply due to the fact they were moving too fast. Outside of offense, Chihiro can also use Nishiki to sustain himself when he has taken far too much damage, which is what he did to continue battling Sojo after he absorbed an entire Mei into himself. Chihiro has managed to push his Nishiki amplification up to x3.

Aka

Aka is Chihiro’s most reliant defensive move. Aka will outright block or soften a blow by absorbing the spirit energy of the attack. When it comes to blocking actual sorcery, Aka absorbing the spirit energy allows it to then replicate the power for Chihiro to amplify his blade and other spells with. He’s done this with Daruma’s explosions to defeat him, Sojo’s lightning to create a lightning rod, and Hiyuki’s flamebone to put pressure on Kyora.

Mei

The strongest move in Cloud Gouger’s arsenal. Mei is a lightning bolt that requires the most charge, and considering how moves like Nishiki work, likely burns through the most spirit energy. When Chihiro uses Mei, he unleashes an epic bolt of lightning to break apart a section of Kyora’s storehouse he used to attack, although the move did destroy the weapon in the process as it was on its last legs. Considering he’s able to use the cloaking variant, Chihiro should also be able to use Cloud Gouger like how Sojo wielded it.

This includes lesser bolts of lightning but also a massive area of effect blast of energy that Sojo attempted to use to wipe out an entire street full of people.

Mei: Cloak

Instead of firing out the lightning bolt, the wielder can instead cloak themselves in it similar to how Nishiki cloaks a wielder in spirit energy. This, then, enhances their speed and power to cut through opponents more easily. Considering Chihiro holds Cloud Gouger in his mouth when he does this, his primary form of attack is using the strengthened wakizashi. At its strongest, Chihiro should be able to match Sojo’s max power increase when he used Mei which is a x2 multiplier.

Mei: Shred.

By mustering the depths of Cloud Gouger’s remaining power and the blade’s own will, Chihiro called upon black lightning to blast himself free of large tree roots and sever the arm of the Leader of the Hishaku. Unlike Kuro: Shred, Mei: Shred appears to just be a much stronger version of Mei’s cloaking abilities

Yui

Yui is a spell that will create frozen constructs in a defensive and offensive fashion. Chihiro does this to save Shiba from a barrage of swords fired at him. Like Sojo, Chihiro can pair Yui up with Kou to create much larger projectiles or use Yui separately to freeze opponents in place

Kou

While Chihiro himself has never personally used Kou, we do know he should be able to use it no matter what. Kou allows the wielder of Cloud Gouger to release a large amount of water to disorient opponents or mask the wielder. This spell pairs well with both Mei and Yui considering the conductive and freezable nature of water, especially on top of the fact that Kou seems to have no charge when compared to Mei and Yui.

Sojo has also used Kou to create a large smokescreen, seemingly of steam considering Kou is just water.

Weaknesses

Michael Morbius

Although Morbius’ abilities are impressive, he himself is not invincible. Those on par with him, such as Milo, are easily capable of slashing through his skin and leaving him heavily damaged. Speaking of those abilities, Morbius requires a steady supply of genuine human blood to keep himself at full power, if he does not then his disease will return and he will become greatly weakened.

Chihiro Rokuhira

Chihiro’s tenacity is his biggest failing and he will typically go beyond limits he should not have under any circumstance. He simply does not know when to quit and this will hurt him greatly in the long game. This can be seen when he sacrifices his arm against Sojo to get an advantage or when he uses a 3x Nishiki Amp despite knowing it would have drastic effects on his entire body. Speaking of sorcery, the biggest constant weakness Chihiro faces is charge times. Strong moves like Nishiki, Mei, and Yui, each require a different amount of time to charge. While Chihiro has managed to shorten charge times for moves like Mei and Nishiki thanks to harmonizing with the weapon, similar to what Sojo did, the charge times do exist even if they are shorter than a mere 10 seconds. These strong moves also burn through spirit energy and more lengthy spells like Kuro Scatter burn through it even faster.

A whol-Oh nevermind. ONE clarification. . .

Venom Scaling?

While Venom is referenced twice in the film, once in relation to Morbius’ bloody slaughter on the ship and another by Dr. Morbius himself, there is absolutely zero evidence to scale one to the other. Even if we were to grant Morbius scaling to Sony’s Venom it’s not like much would change.

Verdict

Stats

As a Marvel character and someone who described his own abilities as superhuman, it’s no surprise that Morbius is strong! He’s easily capable of overpowering regular people and can shatter through the toughest of materials ranging from glass to stone, and to busting down thick steel doors. Morbius is also as strong if not a little weaker than his best friend and arch nemesis, Milo, who piledrived the two of them from the sky and into New York’s sewers. An impressive feat that gets as high as 7.4 tons of TNT. When compared to Chihiro though, those impressive feats start to look really tame. From incredibly early in the series, Chihiro was capable of matching Sojo multiple times in sword clashes and later completely overpowered his block via Nishiki in their final encounter. This means he should scale to Sojo’s ice creation feats which get around 20 tons of TNT. This makes Chihiro nearly x3 stronger but it can get worse for the poor doctor.

Since sorcerers draw upon their own spirit energy to create objects, this means that Chihiro should likely scale to the anti-Cloud Gouger squad member Shiyumi, who can form large rock formations. Her greatest example of this is when she formed the giant platform most of the fight between Sojo and Kamuabni forces took place which got around 82 tons of TNT. Now Chihiro is x11 stronger, and guess what? It can get even worse! One thing that’s been neglected so far is Nishiki. Nishiki is a move that enhances all of Chihiro’s stats, with its maximum level being an x3 multiplier. While it is a risky move, it is one Chihiro can survive nonetheless. Applying this multiplier to Shiyumi’s feat would now make it 246 tons of TNT. All the way in the Multi-city block range and now x33 stronger than Morbius’ best AP and durability feat.

So Chihiro can solidly one-shot Michael Morbius, but is he fast enough to do it? Yeah, not gonna beat around the bush, he blitzes this man. Morbius’ best speed feats are in the Mach 1.5 range, nothing too shabby but Chihiro from just chapter 4 was around Mach 8 to Mach 9. Chihiro then got way faster when he battled against Sojo. Once again using Shiyumi here, she was able to create a wall of rock to block Sojo’s lightning mid-cast which got to Mach 652.34. Applying our x3 multiplier from Nishiki, and puts Chihiro solidly into the Massively hypersonic+ range and about x1,223 faster than Morbius.

Even without the Nishiki multipliers, Chihiro would still be stronger and WAY faster by scaling to Shiyumi’s lightning block. He takes the stats no matter which we cut it. So is Morbius dead? Or does he have any possible way to take this? Well, let’s move on to. . .

Arsenal & Abilities

Considering his nature as a superhuman and vampire, Morbius actually has some decent tricks to use against Chihiro. His bat summoning is going to be his best tool in this battle. Considering the sheer volume of bats, Chihiro is likely to get overpowered by them although he can lessen the pressure with his many wide-attacking spells like Kuro and Mei. However, his being pressured at all by the bats would allow Morbius to employ the same strategy he used against Milo which is injecting Chihiro with the antibody. Michael himself already said the dose is fatal to humans so sounds like an easy win right?

Well not really. Not only would the bats only be able to hold Chihiro temporarily before being slaughtered by his spells, but the serum requires Morbius to be close in the first place which would allow Chihiro to employ his own powerful abilities. Kuro at close range amplifies the blade to immense levels, Yui could freeze Morbius in place before he could even inject Chihiro with the serum, and both shred moves would be devastating at that range. This is a dance that Morbius experiences across the board actually. Chihiro’s Nishiki and Mei, Shred make it so Morbius’ flight is pretty useless. Even if he were to get to high range, Chihiro could simply counter it with a Kuro or Mei lightning bolt, both of which would be fatal.

But what about Morbius’ echolocation? He was able to dodge attacks from Milo using it so would that close the speed difference? Nope! Echolocation simply tells Michael where an attack is coming from, he himself still needs to react to it with his body which, as covered in the stats segment, is impossible. The only thing Morbius’ echolocation would allow him to do is negate Chihiro’s smokescreen options via Kuro, Scatter and Kou, but again it’s not like he’d be able to do much that since Chihiro would be far too fast for him to act on it.

Funnily enough, the only thing Chihiro CAN’T do in this battle is use Aka in any meaningful way. Since Morbius’ powers are entirely physical and biological, Aka’s spirit energy-absorbing attributes wouldn’t allow Chihiro to block any hits, although it’s not like he’d need to given the stat gap.

Additional Factors

So Morbius isn’t stronger, faster, and can’t really kill Chihiro with his powers and equipment; Does he have a single advantage? Well yes, actually! Given Morbius’ scientific genius from an early age, his early graduation, and his scientific advancements, he is solidly more intelligent than Chihiro. However, that too doesn’t matter too much in the long run considering Chihiro is a way better fighter and has fought a wider variety of foes. Michael has only fought normal people and Milo, one group which he completely overpowered and butchered while the other guy he geniunely struggled and only won thanks to his bat summoning. This lack of experience and struggle against foes on his level means that his superior intellect isn’t allowing him to make plans that would give him a win with his single useful piece of equipment.

It definitely isn’t going to allow him to make plans when you consider that Morbius is NOT a fighter. He’s a scientist and every battle he’s been in relied on him overwhelming his opponents with strength and or his lethal claws and teeth. Chihiro on the other hand seems to have been dealing with yakuza and sorcerers for the past three years. He has even recently been able to go against other Enchanted Blade wielders and Kyora, who is the head of an elite sorcerer family. Chihiro has also instructed and kept pace with Kamunabi members who are basically trained soldiers.

Conclusion

"I remember everything."

Advantages:

Disadvantages:

  • Loses the Stat Trinity.

  • Inferior experience and skills.

  • Outranged by Kuro and all of Cloud Gouger’s abilities.

  • Echolocation wouldn’t be able to keep up with Chihiro’s sheer speed.

  • Vulnerable to Yui.

  • . . . but would immediately die before being able to inject him with it.

  • Flopped.

  • Flopped AGAIN.

  • Played by Jared Leto.

  • Got his ass whopped by Dracula and Edward Cullen in a rap battle.

  • Got—okay I’ll stop.

"They chose you too. But. . . but you will never stand as an equal to my father, and for that. . . I’ll cut you down."

Advantages:

  • Takes stat trinity with and without Nishiki and Mei cloak/shred

  • Far more skilled and experienced.

  • Superior weaponry

  • Much superior battle IQ.

  • Can deal with Morbius’ flight via Kuro

  • Superior range with Kuro and Mei

  • Can freeze Morbius in place via Yui

  • Clears and takes care of Morbius’ animal summoning via Kuro, Kuro: Shred, and Mei.

  • Actually good.

  • No, seriously Kagurabachi is really good please read it.

  • Like you can read it for free on WWW.Rea—

Disadvantages:

So overall, and honestly to be expected, Chihiro takes every important category and annihilates Michael. While the antibody does serve as a genuine wincon, Morbius simply lacks the abilities and speed to utilize it effectively. Meanwhile, Chihiro has plenty of options for instantly ending the battle in a second via Nishiki, Kuro, and Mei thanks to his far superior speed and power and even more options to implement it thanks to his longer history of battling opponents and his superior battle IQ. It seems like the poor doctor just couldn’t handle the taste of Chihiro’s blood-stained iron. The winner is Chihiro Rokuhira.

Hello and thank you so much for reading through this entire thing! For a first blog, I sure hope it was an insightful and enjoyable read! If you found any issues, and I do mean ANY issues, please let me know as insight and criticism is always helpful. As for my next blog? Well, I haven’t decided strongly on anything yet and probably won’t be able to work on anything soon thanks to personal problems, BUT make sure to keep a close eye as I’m sure there’s one MU that people will be interested in coming out in the future.

  1. As the strongest Enchanted Blade wielder, HIMhiro, fought the fraud, the Living Jobber Morbius, he began to activate Mei. Morbius shrunk back in fear as HIMhiro said, "Stand proud, Morbius, you are strong."
